① 산업통상부장관은 혁신계획 및 시행계획을 효율적으로 수행하기 위하여 관계 중앙행정기관의 장과 협의하여 다음 각 호의 산업기술분야에서 기술개발사업(산업기술개발을 위하여 필요한 기획 및 조사를 포함한다. 이하 "산업기술개발사업"이라 한다)을 추진할 수 있다. <개정 2009.5.22, 2011.5.24, 2013.3.23, 2013.8.6, 2024.1.26, 2025.10.1>

② 산업통상부장관은 연구기관, 대학, 그 밖에 대통령령으로 정하는 기관ㆍ단체 또는 기업 등으로 하여금 산업기술개발사업을 수행하게 할 수 있다. 이 경우 산업통상부장관은 다음 각 호의 자와 산업기술개발사업에 관한 협약을 체결하고 해당 사업의 수행에 드는 비용의 전부 또는 일부를 출연ㆍ보조 또는 융자할 수 있다. <개정 2011.5.24, 2013.3.23, 2014.12.23, 2025.10.1, 2025.12.2>

④ 산업통상부장관은 산업기술개발사업을 효율적으로 추진하기 위하여 필요하다고 인정하는 경우에는 제39조에 따른 한국산업기술기획평가원, 그 밖에 대통령령으로 정하는 기관ㆍ단체로 하여금 산업기술개발사업의 과제기획ㆍ관리 및 평가(이하 이 조에서 "기획등"이라 한다)에 관한 업무를 대행하게 할 수 있다. 이 경우 산업통상부장관은 기획등을 대행하는 자(이하 "전담기관"이라 한다)에 대하여 기획등의 수행에 드는 비용의 전부 또는 일부를 출연 또는 보조할 수 있다. <개정 2011.5.24, 2013.3.23, 2023.6.20, 2025.10.1>
