국가는 독도의용수비대원 본인 또는 그 유족이 원하면 독도의용수비대원의 시신 또는 유골을 국립묘지에 안장할 수 있다. 다만, 독도의용 수비대원의 시신을 찾을 수 없는 경우에는 독도의용수비대원의 머리카락, 손톱 등 신체의 일부분도 안장할 수 있다. <개정 2012.2.22>
