국가유산기본법 제31조(세계유산등의 등재 및 보호)

① 국가유산청장은 「세계문화유산 및 자연유산의 보호에 관한 협약」, 「무형문화유산의 보호를 위한 협약」 또는 유네스코의 프로그램에 따라 국내의 우수한 국가유산을 유네스코에 세계유산, 인류무형문화유산 또는 세계기록유산으로 등재 신청할 수 있다. 이 경우 등재 신청 대상 선정절차 등에 관하여는 유네스코의 규정을 참작하여 국가유산청장이 정한다. <개정 2024.2.13>

② 국가와 지방자치단체는 유네스코에 세계유산, 인류무형문화유산 또는 세계기록유산으로 등재된 국가유산(이하 이 조에서 "세계유산등"이라 한다)을 비롯한 인류의 유산을 보존하고 국가유산을 국외에 널리 알리기 위하여 적극 노력하여야 한다.

③ 국가와 지방자치단체는 세계유산등에 대하여는 등재된 날부터 국가지정유산에 준하여 보호하여야 하며, 국가유산청장은 대통령령으로 정하는 바에 따라 세계유산과 그 역사문화환경에 영향을 미칠 우려가 있는 행위를 하는 자에 대하여 세계유산과 그 역사문화환경의 보호에 필요한 조치를 할 것을 명할 수 있다. <개정 2024.2.13>
