해상교통안전법 제78조(앞지르기)

① 앞지르기 하는 배는 제1절과 이 절의 다른 규정에도 불구하고 앞지르기당하고 있는 선박을 완전히 앞지르기하거나 그 선박에서 충분히 멀어질 때까지 그 선박의 진로를 피하여야 한다.

② 다른 선박의 양쪽 현의 정횡(正橫)으로부터 22.5도를 넘는 뒤쪽[밤에는 다른 선박의 선미등(船尾燈)만을 볼 수 있고 어느 쪽의 현등(舷燈)도 볼 수 없는 위치를 말한다]에서 그 선박을 앞지르는 선박은 앞지르기 하는 배로 보고 필요한 조치를 취하여야 한다.

③ 선박은 스스로 다른 선박을 앞지르기 하고 있는지 분명하지 아니한 경우에는 앞지르기 하는 배로 보고 필요한 조치를 취하여야 한다.

④ 앞지르기 하는 경우 2척의 선박 사이의 방위가 어떻게 변경되더라도 앞지르기 하는 선박은 앞지르기가 완전히 끝날 때까지 앞지르기당하는 선박의 진로를 피하여야 한다.
