국토교통부장관은 용산공원정비구역의 지정을 위하여 대상지역 일원(一圓)에 대한 인문ㆍ자연환경, 토지이용상황 등에 관한 조사를 실시하여야 한다. 다만, 이미 다른 법률에 따라 조사된 내용이 있는 때에는 이를 활용할 수 있다.
